Summary
 

• The project has installed rain gauges in 88 sectors of Rwanda. The season 2010A started in the west of the country.
•  The Minagri began assessment of season 2009C.
•  Food commodity prices increased by 9% at national level compared to August 2009.

Rainfall Situation
In order to better follow up rainfall, the project installed rain gauges in 3 sectors of each district. The operation ended on September 11, 2009. Figure1 shows the network of these rain gauges. The coordinates (Latitude, Longitude and Altitude) are given in annex 1. Rain data collection will be the responsibility of the sector agronomist and data will be regularly transmitted to the National Meteorological Service by the project.Season 2010A is progressing satisfactorily. The season started in Western Rwanda, with sufficient rains to allow sowing to begin in the second fortnight of September. In the East, land preparation is in progress while farmers
await the rains. Figure 2 shows the spatial distribution of rain for the period September 01-20, 2009. The rainy season is considered to have started when 20 mm of rains have already been recorded.
