The origins of the RSSP project lie in the post-1994 (war/genocide) recovery period in Rwanda. This was a period of massive change, with the state dealing with huge reconstruction, refugee, and security problems, while rebuilding its own operational capacities.

having noted that the present harvest and agricultural markets monitoring system does not provide adequate information on the state of the agricultural sector, initiated a harvest and agricultural market monitoring project, funded under "One UN".
Objective

Rainfall in season 2009B is close to the long-term average. Cumulative rainfall from January 1st to May 10th, 2009, came to a total of 387 mm, which represents 17% of the 434 mm long term average for the same period (Figure1).  The long-term average is calculated for the period 1920 – 1980..
