ADAR’s Coffee Washing Station (CWS) Financial Model will allow you to generate customized projections and financial analysis for a CWS. By simply entering the details of the CWS (capacity, employees, costs, etc.) and your projections for future coffee prices, you will be able to generate customized income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements and financial analysis which will allow you to easily create a complete CWS business plan.
Creating projections allows you to determine exactly how much money will be required to finance the construction and operation of a CWS. In addition to the money required to build a CWS, funds are needed to purchase coffee cherries, pay workers, pay for material consumed in the operation of the station (electricity, oil, etc.) and fund any losses that the CWS may experience during its first few years of operation. The information generated by the model will allow CWS management to make informed decisions on such matters as whether they can afford to buy a new piece of equipment or hire additional laborers.
The manual is divided into three sections. The first section will explain how to enter data into the model to customize it for your particular project. A second section explains the financial statements and analysis that are generated by these inputs. Finally, the last section contains a number of exercises that will allow you to test your skills in using the model and your understanding the financial statements that are created. An Excel financial model is a powerful business tool because it allows you to create financial projections that are customized to your specific project. Every CWS built in
Rwanda is different – different capacities, power sources, transport costs, etc. Therefore, each CWS business plan must take these differences into account. This section will explain exactly how to customize the model to your specific situation.
