AMIS moderation - checklist and training presentation

Quality verification of content
Moderators verify content published by registered users. They can complete and publish content [with the aim to make it public for all visitors]. Once content has been created by a user, the moderators receive an email confirming the content creation.

Moderators should not interfere on user statement / post, unless completely irrelevant to the agricultural sector or with incorrect / injurious language.
Moderators have to check:
  • language selection made by the user : English, French , Kyniarwanda, neutral. If the content is available in one language only, set to language neutral
  • Uploaded material should be free from any malware (virus, spyware, trojan, ...). Complying with open format helps !
  • Relevance to the agricultural sector or bringing information of general interest.
  • uploaded file formats. Rules of interoperability require that the formats used do conform with international standards or open formats so the website user is not required to purchase any commercial software to open a document but can in case, download a freeware or a open source software. Favourite formats are :
    • PDF ISO/DIS 32000-1, office format ISO 26300 for office documents
    • wav, ogg 1, au for audio files, or popular -but not free – mp3 format
In some cases, moderators should transform the file uploaded in the “good” format. Tools (free software) to do so have been explained and made available.
Workflow

1. Authenticated user creates or modifies (own) content (doc-map-yp-wp-forum) authenticated user can comment some pages. Comments could be moderated.
2a. new content is unpublished. The server sends an email to defined recipients (moderators)
2b. Forum content and comments are published as is (no validation needed)
3. Moderator needs to accept / validate the content posted. After this step, the content is published
Taxonomy management
Taxonomy is the backbone of the AMIS categorisation. Taxonomy consists of different vocabularies, each one with terms (fixed or free tagging, the latter enabling users to add their own terms).
Taxonomy management consists of making tidy work in the vocabulary term lists, in order to optimise search engine results and categorisation: translation, synonyms (in same term) and related terms, hierarchy (drag and drop 4-cornered arrows or define parents), add new terms, merge terms (only via taxonomy manager, all term names will become synonyms of the newly defined term)
Attached find a checklist for content verification and a complete peresentation of the moderation tasks.

1The Ogg format is unrestricted by software patents and is designed to provide for efficient streaming and manipulation of high quality digital multimedia. Different file extension are used for different types of content such as .oga for audio only files, .ogv for video with or without sound (including Theora), and .ogx for applications. Because the format is free, and its reference implementation is non-copylefted, Ogg's various codecs have been incorporated into a number of different free and proprietary media players, both commercial and non-commercial, as well as portable media players and GPS receivers from different manufacturers.
